Ingredients

Ingredients measured and laid out on a brown wooden surface.
  • Potatoes - I used red potatoes for this recipe. You could also use russet or yellow potatoes.
  • Olive Oil - A heart healthy fat to add some crispiness to the wedges.
  • Spices - A combination of garlic powder, salt, paprika, chili powder and ground black pepper.

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

Four red potatoes with blemishes removed on a white cutting board.

Wash and dry potatoes. Use the top of a potato peeler or knife to remove any blemishes or bad spots on the potatoes.

Potato cut in half on a white cutting board with a knife on the right side of the cutting board.

Cut potatoes into wedges. First cut the potato in half lengthwise.

Potato wedges tossed in spices and oil in a large white bowl.

Preheat air fryer to 400F. Place wedges in a large bowl and toss with olive oil and seasonings.

Cooked potato wedges in a black air fryer basket.

Places wedges in air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 22-24 minutes or until the wedges turn golden. Toss the wedges every 5-6 minutes. Remove from air fryer and serve immediately. Makes four servings, 8 wedges each.

Hint: Make sure to place the wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket. This will ensure the potatoes cook evenly.

Substitutions

  • Red Potatoes - I used red potatoes because these are the type of potatoes I often have on hand. You can substitute with yellow or russet potatoes if you prefer.
  • Olive Oil - You can substitute the olive oil with canola oil or vegetable oil if you want. I like to use olive oil because it contains heart healthy fats.

Variations

  • Spicy - If you are looking for some extra spice or heat, feel free to add ½ teaspoon of dried red chilies to the spice mix.

Equipment

Air Fryer - I used a basket style air fryer for this recipe. If you are using another type of air fryer, flip the potato wedges halfway through cooking to ensure they crisp and brown evenly.

Storage

Air Fryer Potato Wedges are best served immediately after cooking. Leftovers can be stored for a day or two in the refrigerator. They can be reheated in the microwave or in the air fryer but they won't be as crispy as they were when they first came out of the air fryer.

Top tip

Shake the air fryer basket every 5-6 minutes during cooking time as this will ensure the wedges cook evenly.

FAQ

Do I need to peel the potatoes before cutting them into wedges?

There is no need to peel the potatoes before cutting them into wedges. The skin provides extra nutrients and it helps to achieve that crispiness we are looking for.

Why aren't my potato wedges crispy?

You have placed too many wedges in the air fryer. Place wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket to ensure crispiness.
