Ingredients

Ingredients measured and laid out on a brown wooden surface.
  • All-Purpose Flour - I used all-purpose flour for this recipe. I haven't tried this recipe using any other type of flour.
  • Baking Soda - Helps the bread to rise.
  • Baking Powder - Gives the bread that soft and fluffy texture.
  • Cinnamon and Nutmeg - Spices that pair nicely with apples.
  • Eggs- Helps to bind the ingredients together.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce - Adds a touch more apple flavor to the bread and helps to keep it moist.
  • Maple Syrup - Used to sweeten the bread.
  • Almond Milk - I used unsweetened almond milk.
  • Apple - I used a gala apple but feel free to use whatever type of apple you have on hand.

See recipe card for quantities.

Baked bread in a metal loaf pan.

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the bread comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into 12 slices.

Hint: Make sure to grease the loaf pan before pouring in the batter. The bread will stick if you do not grease the pan.

Substitutions

  • Maple Syrup - Liquid honey can be substituted for the maple syrup.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce - Feel free to use sweetened applesauce but keep in mind the bread will be sweeter.
  • Almond Milk - You can substitute the almond milk with any plant based or non plant based milk.

Equipment

9x5 Baking Pan - I used a 9x5 non-stick metal loaf pan for this recipe. Please keep in mind the baking time will change if you use a different size pan.

Storage

Apple Cinnamon Bread can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container or bag for up to three days.

Apple Cinnamon Bread freezes well. You can freeze the whole loaf or you can cut the loaf into slices before freezing. Make sure to place the bread into a freezer safe container or bag before freezing. I prefer to cut the loaf into slices so I can take out a couple of slices at a time to enjoy. You will be lucky if the bread even makes it to the freezer!

Top tip

Make sure to peel the apple before dicing it. I find the apple cooks best in this bread without the peel.

FAQ

Is this bread actually healthy?

Yes! One slice of Apple Cinnamon Bread has only 100 calories and 1 gram of fat. Plus we are skipping the butter, oil and refined sugars!

Why is my bread dry?

You have overbaked the bread. Bake 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. I recommend checking the loaf at 50 minutes.
